Closing Ceremony of the 4th ASEAN Traditional Textile Symposium

On 17th March evening, at the MCVE, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam in association with the People’s Committee of Thai Nguyen Province conducted the closing ceremony of the 4th ASEAN Traditional Textile Symposium.

Attending at the ceremony were Mrs. Dang Thi Bich Lien, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports & Tourism, Chairman of the Steering Committee, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Phach, member of the Central Party, Thai Nguyen Provincial Party Committee Secretary; Mr. Duong Ngoc Long, Deputy Provincial Party Committee Secretary, Chairman of the provincial People’s committee; Ma Thi Nguyet, member of Provincial Party Standing Committee, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee; Mr. Makarim Wibisono, Executive Director of ASEAN Foundation; Mrs. Mariah Waworuntu, chairwoman of ASEAN Traditional Textile Arts Community; representatives of leaders of ASEAN countries and dialogue partners; ambassadors; representatives of leaders of provinces of Thái Nguyên, Hà Nội, Hà Giang, Cao Bằng, Hòa Bình, Sơn La, Ðác Lắc, Ninh Thuận, An Giang, etc.
Within framework of the symposium, there was an exhibition of products of textile, embroidery and dyeing throughout three periods: period without clothing, incunabula of clothing and age of industrial textile. There were thousands of visitors coming to the symposium. The symposium was regarded as a specialized forum for scholars, experts of textile, weavers, entrepreneurs, curators, textile enthusiasts, etc., to exchange their experiences, points of view, knowledge, etc., in textile field. It was also a great opportunity for participants to seek for new partners, widen market, and contribute to preservation and promotion of cultural heritage in terms of textile.
After 4 days, the symposium was participated by approximately 400 craftsmen, designers, and producers of textile, embroidery and dyeing of ASEAN countries, dialogue partners, 9 provinces of Vietnam, more than 1,000 students and 30,000 times of visit. In fact, the symposium connected power, cooperation among countries, designers, craftsmen, scholars, and entrepreneurs.
At the closing ceremony, Mrs. Dang Thi Binh Lien handed over banner to Thailand delegation, the host of the next symposium. She also presented bouquets to other delegations and participants.
