By the invitation of the Queen and King of Malaysia, with the agreement of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam, the Museum of the Cultures of Vietnam’s Ethnic Groups (MCVE) attended the 8th ASEAN Traditional Textiles Symposium in Malaysia from September 25th to October 1st, 2022. In this symposium, MCVE collaborated with the Thai weavers in Hoa Tien village, Chau Tien commune, Quy Chau district, Nghe An province to carry out two main contents: Presentation and Exhibition on traditional textiles of the Thai ethnic group in particular and Vietnam’s in general.
The opening ceremony of the symposium took place on the morning of September 26th, 2022 with the presence of the King and Queen of Malaysia, the Prime Minister of Malaysia and his wife, and more than 350 delegates from ASEAN countries, China, the USA, Turkey, Canada, Netherlands, India…There are 19 presentations by speakers from participating countries. MCVE attended the first session with the theme: “Vietnam’s Traditional Textile – A Journey”, focusing on an overview of the history of formation and development of Vietnam’s traditional weaving, promoting traditional weaving as well as challenges in preserving and promoting traditional textiles in the context of innovation and international integration.
Through presentations, displays, and product introductions, MCVE together with weavers of the Thai ethnic group, had exchanges to learn experiences to strengthen their understanding and expand international cooperation relations in the traditional weaving preservation, the sustainable development of weaving villages of the Thai ethnic group in particular and Vietnam’s traditional weaving craft in general in the common development trend of traditional weaving in ASEAN countries.
